Class Reflection

July 26, 2012
I will use my Movie Maker Project with parents and with the children. We are required to have family meetings with each child’s family. This short movie will be a great way to show what their child will experience during the day at school. It will answer many questions that usually arise during these family meetings. I will also show this movie during the first day of school for the children. We will discuss what they think will happen at school and then show the movie to help them know what to really expect. This will help the children that are anxious about the day to feel more confident. As the school year progresses, I will add pictures of my new students to the movie. My four year olds will not be able to use this program on their own, but we could create movies about shared experiences. For example, when we go to the fire station, we could make a movie about our field trip. The children would be able to look at all of the pictures that I have placed on the collections board. I would have them sequence the pictures in the correct order as I move the pictures to the bottom of the screen. They could also dictate the script for me to add to each screen. I think Movie Maker will be a great addition to my classroom.

Answer all of the following (# 4-6):
Briefly describe the activity and explain how it addresses higher level thinking.
The children will generate ideas of what they think we will do during the day at school. We will watch this movie to further explore a day in the Child Development Classroom. The children will be asked to recall some of the examples of activities they saw in the movie.
Briefly explain what the students will do in this lesson (this is a hands-on activity).
Generate ideas of what they expect to have happen during the day in our Child Development Classroom.
Watch the movie.
Discuss and recall the experiences that were shown in the movie.
Describe or include the assessment to be used with this activity.
The assessment will be through teacher observation. The teacher will see if the child can generate an idea about our day at school. The teacher will see if the child attends and engages with the movie experience. The teacher will see if the child is able to recall any of the activities shown in the movie.
Choose one of the following to answer
Name, or briefly describe, the differentiation strategy and explain how this lesson is used as a component in differentiated instruction in your classroom.
Since this activity will be used on the first day of school, this will help determine what special considerations each child may need. If information is disclosed during Parent Meetings prior to this activity, the teacher will change seating or will adjust expectations as needed. Children will not be required to answer, but will be encouraged to participate.
